This is a little introduction to me, Ed Jaffe. I have (30+) years experience in the world of residential systems, as a designer, installer and manufacturer.

MICROWORKS Designs Limited is a project-oriented company that is primarily engaged in lighting design and technology consulting for sophisticated residences.

MICROWORKS is designed to fill the gaps in electrical-electronic technology expertise that normally occur in sophisticated residential projects. When a project has an architect, interior designer, EE, PE, electrician, hi-fi store, G/C, phone guy, etc., there frequently still is no individual with an OVERALL view of what is going on technology and systems wise and/or with substantial expertise in lighting design, controls or system integration. Unlike other areas, homeowners don't always know what lighting design should be like. Our belief is that that all of the technology in a home needs to be part of a single design.

			My design work takes place in a domain that some people find hard to grasp. It relates not only to how things look, but also how they work. It relates not to individual components, but to systems. Where others are looking only for an elegant look, I am looking (also) for an elegant solution to problems created by technology in the home. My specialty is in residential projects and I have extensive knowledge, experience and expertise for consulting in the following areas: * Architectural lighting design * Lighting control systems * Multi-room audio and controls * General audio-video technology * Structured wiring for voice/data/RF * Security, electronic and otherwise * Control of devices and whirligigs * General electrical specifications as allowed by law * Integration of ALL of the above and problem solving The above is usually expressed as a high and low voltage plan, a schematic and a whole binder full of other documents and tables. For some projects, we are responsible for 'anything with wires'. So at the end of the day, we at MDL is not a vendor provide independent consulting for design professionals. We also do product development consulting for manufacturers.
